“Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth” – Mike Tyson
You wouldn’t think a guy like Mike Tyson would deliver such a great introspective quote as the one mentioned above. In the 1980s, Tyson was thought of as one of the best fighters of all-time. Every boxer that stepped into the ring with him had a plan. However, that plan we out the door when they felt Tyson’s punching power up close.
Everyone can identify with this quote. All of us have had plans and then something life changing happens – cancer, job loss, family death, another child, infertility, etc. You had this magical life planned out, but things happen. It’s nice to have a 5 year or 10 year plan, but huge, unexpected changes happen in life.
It is how you handle the next day, week, month, and year after that ‘punch’ that matters. God uses these moments to redirect and refocus out lives. He teaches us that He is the provider, deliverer, and Father. The Lord will use people that you don’t even know to minister to you during these times. Stay close to him.
Pray. Pray a lot.
Stay deeply involved in a church. Let your needs be known to leadership. Enjoy the fellowship and the ministry of the church especially during these times.
Stay positive. Love your family and friends.
There is life after getting punched in the mouth. God has a plan and it’s His plan A even though it is our plan B.
